Whether performing their own original compositions or traditional tunes, the music is always expansive and energetic with nuanced undercurrents. The collaboration of Athena and Michael offers exciting new music by two creative and accomplished performers.
Athena Tergis dazzles audiences with her stunning musicianship and charismatic stage presence. Her lively interpretation and technical mastery of the Irish fiddle is widely acclaimed and on display on her recent solo CD, A Letter Home. Athena also performs with the American supergroup Green Fields of America and as soloist with the Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra. Previously Athena was the principal fiddler for the Broadway production of Riverdance and she has performed with artists as diverse as Sharon Shannon and Clarence Clemons. Athena divides her time between touring throughout the world and composing and producing music in her studio in Italy.
“There was agreement that [Riverdance] principal fiddler, Athena Tergis, was a rare gem“ Sing Out! Magazine
Michael G. Rose is a lyrical pianist with a rare mix of musical sensitivity and playfulness. He has an evocative and unique sound which is based in traditional music and tastefully blends influences, from the textures of Nordic jazz to Caribbean rhythms. Michael won international recognition for his imaginative arrangements and compositions as well as his innovative approach to traditional Irish music on the Fromseier Rose CD, Contradiction, which he recorded with Ditte Fromseier Mortensen and singer Niamh Parsons. Originally from Boston and now living in Denmark, Michael has toured extensively with a variety of Irish and Scottish artists.
“Rose’s piano accompaniment is delicate and spare… reminding me in places of Keith Jarrett’s jazz improvisations.” Tom Nelligan, Dirty Linen
